A Study of effects of acupoint Zusanli (ST36) in obese rats

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives : ST36 has been reported as an effective treatment for obesity, but its mechanism is unclear.
Methods : We searched several researches and review articles using keywords : `obesity`, `acupuncture`, `Zusanli (ST36)` in Pubmed and google schola. Then We reviewed the mechanism underlying the effect of acupuncture at ST36.
Results and Conclusions :
1. Acupoint ST36 favorably results in reducing body weight and visceral fat through and biochemical parameters such as cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose in obese rets.
2. ST 36 acupuncture treatment has a remarkable effect of anti-obesity and its mechanism may be related to down-regulating the concentrantion of IL-6 and THF-α.
3. The Electroacupuncture at ST36 increases AMPK expressions and inhibits ACC protein expressions, And thus controls weight gain.
4. The expressions UCP-1, a marker of brown adipose tissue (BAT) were increased in the WAT of mice by electroacupuncture at ST36.
